MCCCD Celebrates AAPI Heritage Month With Film, Discussion, Cuisine, and Dance

TEMPE, Ariz., May 6, 2021 - In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) invites community members to attend events at many of the Maricopa Community Colleges.

“We are proud to celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander heritage with students, staff, faculty, and community members of all backgrounds,” said MCCCD Interim Chancellor, Dr. Steven R. Gonzales. “Our commitment to diversity makes our System stronger, and we are eager to recognize and honor the culture of our Asian and Pacific Islander community, especially amid attacks against the Asian community nationally in recent weeks. We look forward to the month-long series of events that will allow us an opportunity for further education.”

Events happening throughout May allow participants to explore bias and stereotypes, have open dialogue with students and employees, and learn about dance, cuisine, and a film that discusses family dynamics in Asian culture.
