TEMPE, Ariz., May 13, 2021 – The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) will celebrate its graduates during virtual and socially-distanced in-person commencement ceremonies scheduled throughout May, across all 10 of the Maricopa Community Colleges.
The District will also be hosting convocation ceremonies to celebrate the cultural diversity of our 2021 graduates. More information on these ceremonies can be found here.
"Commencement and convocation celebrations are among my favorite events of the year, as they provide an opportunity to honor our students for their outstanding academic achievements and dedication to higher education," said MCCCD Interim Chancellor, Dr. Steven R. Gonzales. "This year’s graduates have been incredibly resilient, overcoming obstacles associated with COVID-19 and still continuing to prioritize their education. I am proud to celebrate our students' success, which is the greatest achievement of our System."
The ceremonies will honor students who have completed an associate degree, certificate, or high school equivalency program. The District is pleased to share that the 2021 graduating class includes:
- 11,207 total graduates of the 2020-2021 academic year
- 5,875 First Generation graduates
- 454 American Indian, Native American and Indigenous graduates
- 4,685 Hispanic and Latinx graduates
- 1,038 African American and Black graduates
- 772 Asian and Pacific Islander graduates
- 482 Veteran graduates
