Dr. Ernest Lara, President of Estrella Mountain Community College, will receive the Exemplary Leadership Award at the 29th annual Profiles of Success Hispanic Leadership Awards Celebration luncheon on September 8, 2017.
The prestigious event is sponsored by Valle del Sol, a non-profit organization that serves the community with leadership development programs and primary health care services for youths, individuals, and families.
Each year, Valle del Sol recognizes Hispanic leaders for their service to community, advocacy, and leadership. Lara joins nine other Hispanic community leaders as the 2017 honorees at this year’s celebration at the Phoenix Convention Center. In 2016, Chancellor Maria Harper-Marinick was honored by the organization when she received the Special Recognition award at the 28th Annual Hispanic Leadership Awards presentation.
Lara has more than 30-years of higher education experience and was appointed Estrella Mountain’s president in 2007. He is a dedicated leader in student development and continues to advance the academic mission of community colleges.
“It's an honor to receive this award, especially as the college is celebrating its 25th Anniversary,” said Lara. “The award is really a testament to the hard work and dedication of our campus community in helping students succeed and in serving the West Valley. We all support Estrella Mountain's Service Strategy...Your Success is Our Success.”
The Hispanic Leadership Awards coincides with the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month and is Valle del Sol’s largest fundraising event of the year.
