The Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board has named Dr. Steven Gonzales as the Interim Chancellor of the Maricopa Community Colleges. Dr. Gonzales is currently the President of GateWay Community College and will assume the role of Interim Chancellor on January 25, 2020.

“Dr. Gonzales is a well-regarded administrator and leader by his peers, the community, and the District’s faculty and staff,” said Governing Board President, Marie Sullivan. “He has the Board’s full confidence to lead Maricopa Community Colleges during this period of transition and as we search for a new Chancellor over the coming months.”

Dr. Gonzales has more than 20 years of instructional and administrative experience in higher education. From 2011 to 2013, he served as the acting associate vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer, for the Pinal County Community College District that operates as Central Arizona College.

“I am humbled to have been asked to serve the District as Interim Chancellor and I appreciate the Governing Board’s support to serve in this capacity,” said Dr. Steven Gonzales. “I am excited about this opportunity to lead the Maricopa Community Colleges during this transition.
