The Phoenix College Alumni Association (PCAA) was recently honored by the Phoenix Business Journal as the third largest membership organization in the Valley. The PCAA was founded in 1989 by Bob Howell '47 and a group of dedicated Phoenix College alumni from the 1940s through the 1960s.
Currently, the PCAA has 30,000+ members across the globe with 20,166 living right here in the Valley. PCAA is overseen by the Phoenix College Alumni and Development Office.
PCAA members have several opportunities for active participation in the organization. Several members participate as volunteers in the following roles:
MENTORING students (in-person, via social media, etc.)
REVIEWING student scholarship applications
SUPPORTING student success by donating to scholarships
VOLUNTEERING at PCAA sponsored events such as Bear Day, Homecoming, Commencement Activities, New Student Orientation, and more.
HALF CENTURY CLUB members for those alumni who graduated from Phoenix College more than fifty years ago. This club plans the annual Half Century reunion and induction of the 50-year graduating class.
Additionally, the PCAA offers two opportunities for leadership roles in the organization through the Phoenix College Alumni Advisory Council and the Phoenix College Alumni Engagement Council.
The Phoenix College Alumni Advisory Council is a select group of 10 - 12 alumni business and community leaders who represent Phoenix College's popular academic/occupational programs or internal constituent groups. This appointed volunteer Council exists to expand the outreach efforts of the Development Office into the local community, while providing feedback and support on fundraising and friend-raising initiatives with alumni.
The Phoenix College Alumni Engagement Council is comprised of seven highly-engaged Phoenix College alumni volunteers who each represent one of the seven pillars of focus of the Alumni Association (i.e. Alumni Outreach, Community Outreach, Half Century Development, History Makers Spotlight, Mentoring & Career Connections, Alumni Scholarships, and Student Outreach). Members of the PCAA organization enjoy several benefits, including discounted tickets to theatre and athletic events, career and interview assistance through the career center, discount at the College bookstore, Fannin Library borrower privileges, discounts on insurance, technology, and vacations via Perkspot benefits, and an official PCAA membership card.
On Friday, July 27, 2018, the active volunteers and PCAA Council members met for a planning retreat. During the retreat, alumni discussed giving opportunities, alignment of PCAA objectives with Phoenix College strategic plan and Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) vision, mission, and values.
