TEMPE, AZ, May 13, 2019 — Mesa Community College (MCC), part of the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) was chosen to participate at an Adobe Creative Campus Event in San Jose, California (Adobe World Headquarters), held on April 8-9, 2019. Faculty member, Eddie Webb and two students from MCC's New Media Lab Experience displayed their work in digital literacy and fluency programs that integrate digital technologies and rich media competencies into traditional English 101 and 102 curriculum, modernizing the written word.
Adobe has committed $25,000-a-year to support the New Media Lab Experience that will support an environment and space for interdisciplinary collaboration, experimentation and innovation in the areas of New Media. Students will have access to the complete Adobe Creative Cloud software services which support learning digital literacy skill-sets across writing, journalism, business, marketing, public relations, graphic arts/design, video editing, music and social media.
“The Maricopa Community Colleges aim to always provide our community with tools and skills, at little to no cost, that align with our mission that allow students to succeed in the future workforce,” said Dr. Maria Harper-Marinick, MCCCD Chancellor. “Our agreement with Adobe embraces innovative technologies and provides direct access to Creative Cloud applications, enabling our students to be more competitive in today's economy.”
“In our modern economy, digital literacy is critical for all students across disciplines,” said Sebastian Distefano, director of Adobe Creative Campus Collaboration. “We are thrilled that MCCCD has embraced the Creative Cloud, empowering thousands of students to develop these vital skills. We are inspired by the innovation and creativity of MCCCD faculty and students, and we look forward to our continued partnership.”
MCCCD and Adobe have had a strong partnership since 2012 when MCCCD participated as one of the initial 25, and only community college to pilot a new licensing model. This new model developed into Adobe Creative Cloud, breaking down barriers and creating public access to an industry standard professional creative platform of choice, for both faculty and students. This new level of access, allows MCCCD students and faculty to explore new avenues of creativity develop new models of curricular engagement, and ultimately integrate digital literacy and media fluency into courses that had previously involved only the written word. The New Media Lab Experience was developed to support this new and innovative approach to modernizing standard curriculum.
